Roháče begin in the East - Osobita, which is 1687 meters high, Roh - 1571 meters high. The peaks are connected by Lucna (1652). The main peaks are RAKON (1876), Volovec (2063), Ostry Roháč (2084), Plačlivé (2126) Trzy Kopy (2163), Banikov (2178), Pachola (2166), Spalena (2083), Salatin (2047), Salatin, Brestova (1902), Zuberec (1746), Palenica ends with Sivy Vrch (1805) and Biela Skala(1316). Rohac Lakes and the waterfall (23 metres high) in Spalena valley are the most beautiful places in the West Tatras.
Rohackie Pleso is a system of lakes at the end of the valley at Ostry Roháč, Plačlivý and Kopy (Tri Kopy, Hrubá Kopa). The main four lakes are in the so-called "Terraces" placed one above the other. There is another lake - Opalove Pliesko and below that there is a waterfall. Roháčske Pleso (also called Dolné Roháčske Pleso) is located at 1562.2 m, with an area of 2.22 hectares (the largest of the lakes Roháč) and a depth of 7 m. The second and third Rohac lake lies at 1650 m and 1653 Horny Roháčsky lake is located at 1719 m.
Sivy Vrch (1805 m) is the first peak in the Western Tatras ridge. It is characterized by numerous rock formations (called Radovan rocks) that are grouped together in one place. It looks like a city. People call this place "town." This trip is suitable for all enthusiastic people who like hiking through the rocks.
Museum Zuberec – Brestová – the old village is just four kilometers from Habovka. The museum is located in the beautiful mountain scenery. It is said that this place is one of the most beautiful open-air museums of folk architecture in Europe. It is built on the banks of Oravský River. It functions like a real village from the late 19th century. The museum is especially attractive during the summer. Although, during winter evening walks with lanterns in the company of a guide are organized in here. There are 50 different buildings. In the spring you can admire the craftsmanship typical of the region. The Museum is open all year round.
Orava Castle is the largest tourist attraction in northern Slovakia. The castle is an amazing complex of the royal chambers and halls. There are forts and towers. Visitors will see three doors and a tunnel, where there are underground passages. The castle is a museum with many interesting Orava exposures. It presents the history of medieval and renaissance buildings. Visitors can admire beautiful interiors and visit the prison where torture was carried out. The castle is open all year round.
Františkova Mill is an architectural monument of culture. The construction is characterized by an original architectural design. The iron ore was produced in here from Rohace (Zuberec, Malatiny). Now the building is an attraction for visitors, a place of photo sessions and cultural events. Every year there is a unique show combining iron ore.
Bystrianska Cave was declared as a national monument in 1973. It is located on the south-west of the village Bystrá. The length of the cave is over 1 km. Since 1968 it has been possible to see 475 m. The cave consists of two parts: the Old and New Cave. How to get there: 5 minutes walk from the park places (on the southern outskirts of Bystra). Open all year round.
Demänovská Cave of Liberty is on the right side of the valley on the north side of Dolina Demanovksa in Niskie Tatry. It lies in the National Park of Nature of Demänovská Valley in the National Park of Low Tatras. The cave represents morphologically the most varied part of the Demänovský Cave System. It is formed in the Middle Triassic dark-gray Gutenstein limestones of the Krížna Nappe along the tectonic faults by the ancient ponor flow of Demänovka and its side hanging ponor tributaries. The cave stands out by its unbelievable variety of colours and shapes of flowstone fills, unique calcite water lilies and other lacustrine forms of flowstone decoration. The length is 8,126 m with elevation distance of 120 m. Open all year round.
Dobšinská Ice Cave is located in the Karst Spišsko-Gemerskim, within the National Nature Reserve Stratená. It belongs to the most important ice caves in the world. The ice occurs in various forms, and its thickness reaches above 25 m. The cave was discovered by E. Ruffiny - mining engineer and his colleagues in 1870. It was opened to the public in 1871. In 1887, it became the first cave in Europe which was electrically lighted. The entrance is located on the northern slope of Duca - 969.5 m. The cave is 1232 m. It is open all year round.
Water Mills in Kvačianska valley are built on the higher part of Kvačianska valley which is called Oblazy (rivers Borovianka and Hutianka). Both mills were created in the first half of the nineteenth century. It is a mountain type of mills. They are located in one of the most beautiful valleys in picturesque mountain range in Chočské hills. The mills are a part of the tourist routes of Kvacianska Valley and Prosiek Valley. There is also Janosik, who watches us from the side. On rainy days the rock has an impression of a weeping face. There is also a place called Kobylin where visitors can observe rare and protected flowers – plesnivce.
Prosiek Valley is an interesting valley. It is ranked among the most beautiful dell in the West Tatra mountains. The valley is located in the Choč mountains (Chočské hills). It lies between Oravská Magura, West High Tatras, Low Tatras and Big Fatra. It is about 4 km long. It begins just behind Prosiek village. At the beginning there are deep and narrow gorges rock. Slovak call this place Vrata (the gate). There is a waterfall - 15 m high. After that visitors may admire the beauties of the nature and plenty of rock formations spread everywhere in the dell. There are also some ladders on the way. They are safe and ease to handle (even for older visitors). Interestingly, it has the rails embedded to the rocks. This seems unbelievable, but in the past vehicles moved through the valley. People who first visited this valley come back very often to discover something new in here.
Juranova Valley also called Juraniowa Cieśniawa is unusual because of its form and canyons. There are some ladders on a way. There is a gorge with waterfalls and marmits. It is considered as one of the most beautiful gorges in Slovakia.
The valley of peace and quiet is a valley crossing a river. There are numerous mineral springs. Beautiful nature surrounds visitors along the route. The beautiful balconies and terraces are located in here. The valley is also the Christian Way. At the top, there is a wooden chapel.
Climbing is a popular sport in Orava region. The degree of difficulty from V + to + IX. Skalka (the place of climbing) is located approximately 5 miles from Habovka - limestone rocks - Vapenka. Climbing routes are clearly marked with degrees of difficulty.
Orava Dam is a part of Orava Region. The area of the dam is 35 km2 and the average depth is about 15 m. There are popular tourist resorts in here. The main are Slanická and port. Travel lovers should take a cruise on Slanicka Island. There is a beautiful church.
Slanica Island is the remnant of flooded five villages. They disappeared under water of Orava in 1953. There has been preserved a Baroque church which was a part of the hill of Calvary. There is an art gallery and historical exhibition on the island. It is also a great place for anglers.
Liptovská Mara – lake. The area of the dam is 27km2. The lake is teeming with life mainly in summer. The area is visited not only by Slovaks, but also by citizens of other countries. Visitors will find plenty of water attractions in here such as surfing, sailing, water bicycles. You can also rent a boat. An excellent place for anglers.
Podroháčske Folk Festival is the largest and the oldest folk culture event organized in the region of Orava. Visitors are acquainted with folk traditions, songs and dance.
Rafting - on Orava river takes place on a raft on the river between Nižná - Podbiel or Horna Lehota - Orava Castle with a the possibility of visititing Orava Castle. Participants of the trip meet 15 minutes before. It starts in Podbiel. Tourists are transported to - Niżna by bus. Rafting takes about 2 hours. It is 7 km. The price includes drinks as well. Minimum 8 people, max. 12 people. Discount for children under 10.
